I have years of experience as a painter and a lifelong fascination with color. Before teaching art, I spent almost thirty years working as a colorist in the hair industry, which trained my eye to see subtle shifts and relationships between colors. I have also studied color therapy and color psychology, bringing together artistic, technical, and psychological insights into color.
I believe that color mixing and making art is not a talent but a skill anyone can learn through practice and play.
To me, color is about mood and feeling. It’s not only what you see but also what you experience. Working with color can be relaxing and even therapeutic, and I love guiding painters as they discover this for themselves.

In Module 1, I explain which materials you need to do the mixing exercises. When it comes to paint colors, we work with ten colors: two reds, two blues, two yellows, two earth colors, plus black and white. You can use student grade paint or professional quality paint. In Module 1, you will find a list of the exact colors from the most well known paint brands.

The course itself is taught using acrylic paint. However, you can definitely follow the course if you paint with oil paint. The principles of color mixing are the same whether you work with acrylics or oils, so the techniques I explain apply just as well to oil paint. The drying time of oil paint is different from acrylics, but that does not affect how colors are mixed.
If you work with gouache, you can also follow the course without any problems. Gouache uses pigment in a similar way, so the mixing principles translate very well.
Watercolor paint also uses pigment, and color theory applies to all painting techniques that work with pigment. However, with watercolor you mainly use water to make colors lighter. For that reason, this course is not suitable for those who work primarily with watercolor.
